During this cycling holiday, you will be provided with seven nights of accommodation in a hotel.

Hotel Maestral / Hotel in the heart of Kupres town

For your best vacation, we are pleased to offer you accommodation in rooms made with natural materials, and after you feel rested come down to the restaurant and enjoy our delicious home-cooked food that is famous in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.

  • The hotel is offering double rooms, rooms for three and for four persons. And one room with a single bed.


The week is guided in English or Croatian by a local guide, called Vilim. Accommodation is provided in a hotel or apartment. Every day has its own trail, but all start in Kupres. Breakfast, lunch in nature, and dinner are included just as an additional activity in the evenings.

Tours start at about 10 AM in the morning and end around 3 PM. If additional baggage along the tour is needed, a car can follow the group. The holiday is offered for families, individuals, and small groups of up to 8 persons. You don’t need to be in good shape, the tour is for everyone, although a bit of condition is welcomed.


Day 1: Arrival

Individual arrival. Dinner included. In case of early arrival, we will complete it cycling around our town by showing you up what makes our place that unique, and what you can expect during your vacation. Dinner will be served in your hotel.

Day 2: Karst Phenomena of the Japage (31 km)

Start around 10 am, after breakfast. On this tour, we will cycle to the huge holes in the middle of Kupres plateau, but will first visit the ghost village in the place which we call ‘’little Mongolia’’ – you’ll see why. Ghost village is an abandoned place from the war, now known as a touristic attraction. Japage are karst phenomena – huge holes full of rocks and trees, six of them. There will be our rest for some refreshments and after back to Kupres for lunch. Afternoon we will visit natural honey production (you’ll be able to buy natural Kupres’s honey for yourself, propolis and other healthy products if you want). Dinner at your hotel.

Day 3: Black Peak (34 km)

The start time will be the same as the day before. Black Peak is that one special day when we have our picnic time. We will first cycle to our natural lake called Kukavičko, our mountain pearl, where we swim during hot days in summer, a beautiful place. You can give a try too during your vacation! Pause for a short break. Then we will pass phenomenon – rock into the ground, popularly called ‘Asteroid’, during our short climb to picnic place. Picnic time – 2 or 3 hours of beautiful enjoyment in the middle of the forest. We will have our BBQ there and have a short nap in our hammocks! Why not! After that, there is a cool sightseeing downhill – an easy one. Back to the hotel for some rest and just before the night we will visit wild horses in the valley nearby (top recommended – you can thank us later, additional cost – 10€ ). Dinner at your hotel.

Day 4: Plazenica tour (27km)

The start time will be the same as the day before. We will first cycle through a few villages, where people mostly live from agriculture and cattle, so you will see that part of Kupres too. Then, easy climb on top of Kupres gate and after that, deserved downhill time around Plazenica mountain. A short break will be on top of the Kupres gate on our – Hollywood! You will see some hidden places during your ride and after that, you will arrive at the horse ranch and meet some beautiful people from around the world who’s on their vacation too! Back to the hotel for lunch. Rest time. Afternoon we will be back at the ranch for some horse riding and to play traditional games. Dinner will be served in your hotel.

Day 5: Ski resort tour (40 km)

The start time will be the same as the day before. This tour will lead us to the place where thousands of people every winter are having fun with their favorite winter sports. We will climb on half of that ski resort and lead the road around it. After some downhill, we will visit a monument of Kupres defenders during the war and cycle trough fields with thousands of balls of hay. Back to the hotel for lunch and some rest time. Afternoon we will visit some old monuments and get you in a part of rich Kupres history and old tradition that goes back in the 14th century. Dinner at your hotel.

Day 6: Stožer tour (25 km)

Despite the number of kilometers, this route might be the hardest one. Central is climbing the Stožer mountain, located next to Kupres town. When we finally arrived at the top at 1758 meters above sea level we will get a beautiful view over the area and see far away in the distance to the nearest town. One hour break. Back to Kupres for lunch and some rest. Afternoon you can give a try with ATV rides(additional cost – 25€), if not we can go for a swim in our lake (we can go before/after your ride too). Dinner at your hotel.

Day 7: Rama lake (50 km)

This tour is the longest one, it is not so hard but how long it is, but it will pay off. We will cycle over Kupres plateau all the way up to the place called Zahum in Rama, where you will get in touch with the sad history of a young girl called Diva Grabovčeva, and then well-deserved beautiful sightseeing over magnificent Rama lake. Pause for some rest and our lunch enjoying the view. After lunch, there is an additional option to go on a boat ride around Rama lake and after visit to the old Rama museum where you’ll get to know about Bosnia tradition (not only Kupres’s, because every place has different tradition). Back to Kupres for our dinner.

Day 8: Hiking on Plazenica mountain and Pločata vrila (10 km)

Our activities on your last day will depend on your departure time. Planned activity is to hike on Plazenica mountain and after on Pločata vrila (eng. Pločata spring) where legendary said that one who once drinks water from Kupres will always glad to be back. We will find an equivalent solution for that day no matter on your departure time.

Kupres is a small town in Bosnia and Herzegovina which counts about 2500 people. It is a mountain city located 1120 to 1150 meters above sea level and averages 55 days a year of snowfall. The town is 127 kilometers distanced from Split, 143 kilometers from Sarajevo, and 123 kilometers from Banja Luka, just in a middle.

Kupres is a famous ski resort where a majority of visitors coming from Dalmatia and Herzegovina, mostly because of Kupres’s proximity to those regions. Kupres is also famous for its active tourism that doesn’t include only skiing, like motocross, paragliding, horse-riding, cycling, and off-road driving. The town also has a large natural lake called “Kukavičko jezero”.

Kupres is most famous for gathering 2325 Ivan’s, people with the same name - Ivan and is listed in a book of Guinness World records. Kupres is also famous for its old tombstones. There is one large group of tombstones called Ravanjska vrata and one group in Zlosela village. There are also tumuli - burial mounds in which one of those archaeologists found a grave and a skeleton of old Kupres human. It is believed to be more than 3000 years old and it is now kept in Gorica museum in Livno. There is an annual cultural and agricultural fair “Strljanica” held in Kupres each first Sunday of July, where tradition is older than 300 years of cutting grass with the old hand mower.

Arrival by airplane

The program starts in Kupres, it means that transport to Kupres is not included. There is an offer of airport transfer from Split, Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Zadar. All of them take about two hours by car, only Zadar is a three hour drive. This concerns an additional price.
