Accommodation

During the tour, you will stay in three to four-star hotels.

Program

Day 1: Tirana

Arrival in Tirana Airport, you will be picked up by the tour guide. Transfer and check-in at the hotel. In the afternoon, you will visit Tirana. City walk with Scanderbeg Square, Ethem Bey Mosque, and more.

Day 2: Tirana - Ohrid Lake, Macedonia (about 110 kilometers / 60 kilometers by bike)

Travel by bus with bike trailers over mountain passes and through valleys along the Roman Via Egnatia to Lake Ohrid. From Qafa-Thana Pass (1,000 meters) steep slope, you begin the cycling trip along the western shore of the lake to observe small villages, mountain ranges, and wild nature to reach your destination, the city of Pogradec. Tonight, stay in Pogradec.

Day 3: Pogradec - Korca - Germenj - Permet (about 170 kilometers / 60 kilometers by bike)

Departure by bus to the city of Korca and enjoy a short city tour. The bike tour starts in the highlands of Korca through adjacent mountains, apples, fields, and wild plants. In front of you are countless passes and valleys that pull into the mountains and over the Barmash Pass (1,159 m) to Gërmenjë, where you can enjoy a lunch break.

Next, you cycle to country town Leskovik in the Vjosё area near the border with Greece. Downhill to Carshova and you follow along the Vjosa valley, bordered with sky-high peaks to reach the town of Permet. Tonight, you will stay in Permet.

Day 4: Përmet - Gjirokastër - Saranda (about 130 kilometers / 65 kilometers by bike)

In the morning, you cycle to Kelcyra, where you see the jagged "Trebeshina summit", characteristic of the rugged mountains. Continue along the Vjosa Valley tributaries of the Drinos following another gorge.

This opens into a plain with the city of Gjirokastër ("city of stones"), which is majestically high on the hillside. Take the opportunity to explore the narrow cobblestone streets and Ottoman houses.

In the afternoon, the bus takes you to the Muzina pass. There begins the bike tour. You arrive in the mountains with beautiful curves and Mediterranean flair until you reach the eternal source of water "blue eye". In the afternoon, you make a detour to Lekursi Castle over Saranda Bay opposite island Corfu. Tonight, you will stay in Saranda.

Day 5: Coastal Stage Sarande - Himare (about 52 kilometers by bike)

In the morning, you cycle to the UNESCO-protected ancient city of Butrint, which is one of the most important monuments of Albania, with its lion's gate, theater, forum, and an aqueduct and the temples of Asclepius and Athena.

Towards noon, you drive north along an ascent and descent is similar to this section, which allows you some beautiful views of the rugged coast. A climb leads you to a rock plateau. It goes on and on, they cycle through open landscapes and always have the breathtaking mountain scenery to your right and the sea to your left.

Enjoy a short interesting visit to the fortress of Ali Pasha, built on a small peninsula opposite Corfu. After all of the excitement, descend to the long beach of Himara. Stay in Himara.

Day 6: Himare - Vlore (about 65 kilometers by bike)

Today's stage is as demanding as it is spectacular. On this bike tour, you will climb the Logara Pass, 1,000 meters above the blue Ionian Sea and cross the surrounding national park, which is home to the Black Pine, the otter, and the Golden Eagle. After lunch, you go on a long descent to the coastal village. Stay for the night in Vlora.

Day 7: Vlora - Durres (about 200 kilometers / 50 kilometers by bike)

First, you will visit the ruins of Apollonia, a Doric foundation from the 6th century BC with impressive relics from Greek and Roman time. Berat is considered the "white city of 1000 windows" - an Ottoman-style city. The most beautiful is Kalaja, the castle area, with small houses and the Onufri Museum of Icons - UNESCO World Heritage. Continue to the port of Durres. Visit Roman amphitheater, spas, Byzantine Forum, Venetian Torre. Stay in Durres.

Day 8: Durres - Tirana / Return flight

After breakfast, transfer to Tirana airport and return flight at late noon. Arrival in Vienna.

Route description

Changes in the program are reserved. The route leads mostly on small side roads which are mostly paved, on small stretches on well-paved gravel roads. In the driveways of the cities is also expected to increased traffic. This bike tour, which is richly equipped with experiences, requires a moderate condition since there are also days on which over 1,000 vertical meters are driven. The bus is available for one or the other increase. Albanien Reisen recommends that you wear a bicycle helmet!
