Siena to Rome Italy Bike Tour

The ancient route that in medieval times connected Canterbury to Rome and to the harbors of Apulia has been discovered by modern pelegrin, who set off on a fantastic route. Anima Toscana offers the opportunity to discover the Via Francigena route from Siena to Rome by bicycle, crossing the region of Tuscany and Lazio on secondary road and gravel road. The Via Francigena passes through the Val d’Orcia, Viterbo, the Lake Bolsena, and the “Tuscia” before arriving in Rome. You will have a chance to visit charming medieval villages and riding among breathtaking panoramas! The visit to the beautiful city of Rome completes this beautiful bike experience.

You will spend the first and second night in a three-star hotel, the third night in a farmhouse called Agriturismo Le Vigne, the fourth night in a four-star hotel, and the fifth night in a three-star hotel selected by Anima Toscana Bike Tour.


Day 1: Benvenuti in Toscana

Today is individual arrival at the meeting point in a three-star hotel located only one kilometer away from the city center of Siena.

Day 2: From Siena to San Quirico, 37 miles / 60 kilometers

Your first stage is surrounded by a beautiful view. In the first part of the stage, you will ride the typical hills of Val d'Arbia. The route crosses the permanent route of L’Eroica to Buonconvento, a very nice medieval village. The end of the stage is in Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO-protected site. A diversion to the normal route will lead you to Pienza, a renaissance town, also famous for its pecorino. You will enjoy dinner in a Tuscan restaurant and accommodation in a three-star hotel located in San Quirico d’Orcia.

Day 3: From San Quirico to Bolsena, 50 miles / 81 kilometers

Today, you can enjoy the landscape of Val d’Orcia while riding through the thermal medieval village of Bagno Vignoni. You will be pedaling on the Paglia’s valley following the old Cassia road. Contignano, a beautiful town on the top of the hill where you can admire the fantastic view on the Val d’Orcia, awaits you. You will ride to Acquapendente before arriving at the Lake Bolsena, which will be the end of the stage. You will enjoy dinner and accommodation in Agriturismo, located on the Lake Bolsena.

Day 4: From Bolsena to Sutri, 40 miles / 65 kilometers

Along hilly routes, with the beautiful view on Montefiascone, you will join Viterbo and its beautiful city center. You can explore the town of Vetralla and Capranica. The end of the stage is in Sutri, a town of Etruscan origin where you cannot miss the visit to its amphitheater and the church of the Madonna del Parto. Your dinner and accommodation will be in a four-star hotel located outside Sutri.

Day 5: From Sutri to Roma, 40 miles / 65 kilometers

You can explore Monterosi and the Monte Gelato waterfalls, a natural area for a little relaxation before arriving at Campagnano di Roma. You will ride along the Parco di Veio and the Tevere bicycle path before the final arrival in Rome. The alternative route will lead you on the river of Lake Bracciano before arriving in Campagnano di Roma. You will have dinner on your own and accommodation in a three-star hotel located very close to the city center of Rome.

Day 6: Arrivederci

Today is your check-out and individual departures. Otherwise, you can add more days to your stay and visit this beautiful city.

Avid rider

This tour is for the cyclist who rides an average of 150 kilometers or more per week and love to train, improve, and race. You need to be able to ride in all terrain, paved and unpaved roads, with hills and long climbs, and technical descents. The average daily rides are 70 - 150 kilometers per day, with 1,000 meters or more of climbing. You will be focused riding on a challenging path, but you will have the chance to relax for a while, visiting nice places and enjoying nice landscapes.


This bike tour will take place around various locations in Italy. You will ride all the way from Siena to Val d'Orcia, San Quirico d’Orcia, Lake Bolsena, Sutri, and your final destination, Rome.


You will be served 4 breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 4 dinners for the whole tour.
