Accommodation

The accommodations will be three or four-star hotels. After a hard day on the saddle, you will rest up in beautiful locations along the route. Hotels and guesthouses have been carefully selected so you can experience a range of guesthouses and hotels, each with their own unique features and all with high-quality facilities and friendly staff. You’ll be able to kick back, relax, and enjoy a drink at the end of each day knowing you’ll be getting a good night's sleep. Hotels are located in Girona, Pobla La Lillet, Sort, Bagnères du Luchon, Saint Savin, Saint Jean Pied du Port, and San Sebastian.

Program

You will begin the adventure in Girona, the pro cycling mecca of the world. Ride north to the Pyrenees through Catalunya and cross the border into France. On the fifth and sixth day, you will tackle the iconic "circle of death" Tour de France route, connecting the Peyresourde, Aspin, Tourmalet, Soulour, and Aubisque. You will finish it with a rolling ride through the Basque Country and descend into the gastronomic capital of the world on the Costa Verde, San Sebastian.

Riding level

The Trans-Pyrenees Challenge is designed for advanced riders with optional extensions for riders who want to challenge themselves further as well as options to shorten the rides for those who need to. To best enjoy the tour, riders should be comfortable riding 100 kilometers and able to climb for at least an hour without stopping. Training for the tour is recommended. To be able to enjoy the ride, regular cycling in the months before the tour is highly recommended.

Riders need to be able to climb for a sustained period of time (it doesn’t matter how fast). The support vehicle will never be away from the group should you wish to take a break, making this tour accessible for intermediate riders looking for a challenge. Eat Sleep Cycle is experienced at adjusting rides to suit different rider levels within a group. Please give them a call if you have any doubts or questions. This tour is not suitable for non-cycling partners as it would involve long days in the support van.

Full support

The ride support vehicle is stocked with natural ride nutrition, electrolytes, and water. On longer days, the team will serve a roadside lunch, a time-efficient pit stop with the right balance of carbohydrates, protein, fruit, and veg to keep you energized and feeling healthy all week.

Eat Sleep Cycle ride leaders are experienced riders from all walks of life united by a love of cycling who’ll help to keep the group safe, motivated, and savoring the trip of a lifetime. The team members are fun, friendly, and patient; you will never be left behind. The tour leaders know the region well and speak the local language. Mechanical support will be close by at all times.

Enjoy first-class guiding, vehicle, and mechanical support from the dedicated team throughout the tour. Eat Sleep Cycle is expert at tailoring a tour to meet the needs of the guests, be that adapting rides, ride nutrition, and working with the host hotels. You will expect a high staff to rider ratio, small ride groups on the road, and the cycling holiday of a lifetime.

The bike

You can choose from a Ridley, designed in cycling’s heartland of Belgium or a state-of-the-art Factor bike. All the bikes are supplied with compact 50 - 34 chainsets and 11 - 32 cassettes. Ridley Fenix SL 105 has a carbon frame, Shimano 105 11-speed, and Forza RC23 wheelset. Ridley Fenix Disc has a carbon frame, Shimano Ultegra 11-speed, hydraulic disc brakes, and DTSwiss R24 DB wheelset. Ridley Helium X has Carbon Frame carbon frame, Shimano Ultegra 11-speed, and Forza RC23 wheelset. The last bike, Factor O2, has a state-of-the-art lightweight frameset, Black Inc. carbon wheels and finishing kit, and Shimano Ultegra Di2.

Location

The trip will start in Girona, take you to Pobla la Lilet and Sort in Spain and Bagneres de Luchon, Saint-Savin, and Saint Jean Pied du Port in France, and end in San Sebastian, Spain.

Food

You will enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and ride nutrition prepared especially for cyclists. You will start the day with a breakfast buffet at the hotel. On the road, you eat a time-efficient lunch served by the support team and stay fueled all day with ride nutrition from the support vehicle. Dinner is at hotels and local restaurants. You will taste three-course Catalan, French, Basque, and Spanish food en route. Drinks at riders' expense

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Fly in to Girona–Costa Brava Airport (GRO) or Barcelona–El Prat Airport(BCN). For the start of the tour - the warm-up ride departs at 15:00 on day 1 of the tour from the center of Girona. If you're travelling from another time zone, Eat Sleep Cycle recommends planning to arrive at least one day early to allow your body time to recover ahead of the ride.
