Specialized Tarmac

If you want to go fast, like go fast everywhere, this is the bike. This is the bike that's made for everything from Grand Tours to your local fondo. And, with a ground-up redesign, a heavy dose of aero wizardry, and of course, disc brakes, this most complete race bike is, well, even more complete.

Bringing your own bike

Bringing your bike on the plane can be quite costly and will require you to assemble your bike in your hotel room before the tour. Most hotels will let you store your bike container for the duration of the tour. Due to space constraints, Escape Adventures cannot take your bike box on the tour van.

All of Escape Adventures' road bike trips include a Garmin GPS device to help you navigate through each day safely and smoothly. You’ll know how far, fast, and high you’ve ridden on the flats or climbs or on your way through each day. It includes navigation with turn prompts that will even show you how to get back to start. Simply turn it on and start riding. No paper maps needed!

Preparing for your road tour

For optimal physical preparation, Escape Adventures recommends that you ride at least several hours per week during the month preceding the tour. During the tour, you will be on your bike every day and they can assure you that an unprepared bottom is a sore one! If you can’t ride your bike or don’t own one, take a spin class at your local gym a few times a week. Your level of fitness does affect how much you enjoy your tour. Check your specific itinerary for an idea of your average daily mileage and level of strenuousness - then train appropriately.

Fitness level

The fitness level for this tour is one to two. This means that the total elevation is 1,000 feet and customers will ride 10-20 miles per day.

Support vehicle

Their exclusive fleet is custom-built to go further in the backcountry, so you can see places you never knew existed.

Day 1-2: Santa Rosa - Calistoga

You will meet in Santa Rosa, 55 miles north of San Francisco; wine country’s urban hub. You will cycle through the graceful Napa Valley park, which is amidst mixed chaparral and woodlands that shade Lake Hennessey, as well as its adjacent Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve.

Sweeping past numerous picturesque vineyards and wineries, the Silverado Trail shadows a stagecoach route built in 1852 to service nearby cinnabar mines. Then, you will retire to a thoughtfully-preserved vision of early wine country culture, Calistoga, where you are welcomed by its famous hot springs.

Day 2: Calistoga - Healdsburg

On the following day, you will mount up for Healdsburg, with a stop to marvel, or spritz, at Old Faithful Geyser of California. Reaching Healdsburg, which is continually cited as one of America’s top ten small towns, you will explore Pine Flat Road. Exquisitely scenic, the Pine Flat Road reaches into the Mayacamas Mountains, a subrange of the Northern Inner Coast mountains, the high point in this rich riparian area.

Day 3-4: Healdsburg

From your lodgings in Healdsburg, shoot west from lowlands alongside the Russian River into northern Sonoma County. You will ride along Lake Sonoma and choose to test your lungs on the optional out-and-back ride up Rock Creek Road with stunning view finding of the big, green-gold landscape.

Day 4: Healdsburg - Geyserville

On your fourth day, you will be leaving Healdsburg and cycle on the famous Westside Road to Geyserville. Enroute, you’ll dismount to stroll the most inviting vineyards, as well as cross a historic bridge. Dismounting in Geyserville, you will tread into the nearby 805-acre Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. You will be hiking amongst / marveling at the giants who reign over this temperate rainforest, where you will meet the tallest tree, the 310-foot tall Parson Jones. Then, you will pay respects to the elder statesman, the 1400-year old Colonel Armstrong.

Day 5-6: Geyserville - Bodega Bay

From Geyserville, you will drop toward the enormous and raucous Pacific. A brisk and exhilarating wind, the ocean’s churning, plus a chorus of barking seals lend the ride a high-spirited ambient. From upland marine prairie layered above coastal bluffs and terraces, you will revel in near-coast sea stacks. Wrapping up in frothy romantic Bodega Bay, you will enjoy the best farm-to-table cuisine and locally caught, or harvested seafood / shellfish.

Day 6: Bodega Bay - Bodega - Santa Rosa

Today, you will wake up to crashing ocean waves before ascending Bay Hill. Set along the rugged, rolling Sonoma Coast, and the rich grey whale habitat, you roll into Bodega: the location for Alfred Hitchcock’s "The Birds". After visiting the legendary "Birds" house, you will gently finish your tour in Freestone, a 19th-century stone quarry and logging town. Here, in the town’s handsome historic district, you will enjoy some of the best home-baked bread anywhere. Then, you will shuttle back to Santa Rosa.

This bike tour will take place in California, USA. Starting from Santa Rosa, the route will cover places such as Calistoga, Healdsburg, Geyserville, Bodega Bay, Bodega, and back to Santa Rosa.
