At the foot of the Dolomites, you will cycle without meeting steep inclines, along well-built valley cycle paths. Among which are also the classic “Toblach or Dobbiaco - Lienz” and the “Drava or Drau bicycle path.” The Lake Toblach, the view to the “Three Peaks,” as well as typical towns and a lot of other things will rest in your remembrance for a long time.

During this cycling holiday, you will stay in a four-star hotel in either Niederdorf or Toblach.


From your hotel in Hochpustertal/Alta Val Pusteria, you will leave every day for your bicycle tour. The program will give you space for an individual organization of the stages and will guarantee fun for all cyclists, equal for athletic and pleasure-seekers. The bicycle tour will lead you into the side valleys of Hochpustertal to Sexten and Gsies and on the old Dolomites railway track to Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Each stage will start at the highest point and you will cycle comfortably down the valley, back to the starting point. It will be an easy tour, ideal for families. It will run consistently on valley cycle paths without steep inclines. On the most days, there is the possibility to choose independently the desired length of the route and to adapt according to the transfer by minibus or train.

In addition for convenience, you can take a day of rest. The overnight stay is intended always in the same hotel in Hochpustertal/Alta Val Pusteria (Niederdorf/Toblach), from where the daily trips start and it is not necessary that you change the hotel day after day.

Day 1: Arrival in Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco

You will arrive individually at the hotel in Hochpustertal. You can have free, unguarded public car parking near the hotel.

Day 2: The Hochpustertal/Alta Pusteria along the river Rienz and Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco - Bruneck/Brunico (approximately 19 miles / 30 kilometers to Bruneck or 37 miles / 60 kilometers if you are going to Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures)

Starting from the highest point in Dobbiaco/Villabassa, the cycle path will wriggle along the river Rienz through the villages of the valley to Brunico. Ambitious cyclists have the possibility to continue the cycling path to the valley Tauferer Ahrntal and to visit Castle Taufers. There will be a return transfer from Brunico to your hotel in the afternoon.

Day 3: The Sextental Valley from the Sexten Dolomites to Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco (approximately 12 to 19 miles / 20 to 30 kilometers)

After a transfer to the valley Fischleintal, the starting point of the day’s stage, you will go on by bike. From aloft, some famous peaks of the Dolomites will greet you while you stroll through the Sexten Valley. Out of the valley, you will cycle to San Candido, with its famous Romanic dome! After enjoying some refreshments at the source of the river Drau/Drava, you will return to the hotel.

Day 4: Drava/Drau bicycle path, the classic Toblach/Dobbiaco - Lienz (approximately 31 miles / 50 kilometers, consistent slightly downwards)

You will leave Dobbiaco or Villabassa to arrive in San Candido before you overstep the nearby Italian-Austrian border right after Prato Drava. Suavely you cycle to Lienz, which is located on the confluence of Isel and Drava. Worth seeing is the Historic Center and the Castle Schloss Bruck. Return transfer to your hotel in the afternoon.

Day 5: Cycling path along the Dolomites railway track, Cortina d‘Ampezzo - Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco (approximately 22 miles / 35 kilometers with a consistently slight increase until Cimabanche)

You will have a shuttle transport to Cortina. On the unique road, especially for cyclists, there are illuminated tunnels of the erstwhile track. The path will lead you from Cortina d’Ampezzo to Cimabanche, the highest point of the tour. Following the cycle path, you will pass Lake Dürrensee.

Do not forget to look over your shoulder and enjoy the view of the massif of Cristallo. Shortly afterwards, you will see the world famous Drei Zinnen. Passing by Lake Toblachersee, you will reach your hotel in Dobbiaco or Villabassa.

Day 6: From Gsies Valley to Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco (approximately 19 miles / 30 kilometers)

After breakfast, you will transfer to the starting point of the tour in the Gsies Valley. The valley is characterized by traditional farms and a big calmness and tranquillity.

Day 7: Departure day

You may depart individually or extend your stay.


You may rent a 21-gear ladies‘ and men’s bicycle, seven-gear unisex with a backpedal, or an e-bike unisex model. For all the bike routes, FUNActive Tours can provide high-quality rental bikes and additional equipment if requested. The bikes have been specially designed for the bike tours. They are comfortable, safe, and sturdy bikes and therefore, perfect to undertake tours of several days duration.

The rental bikes are 21-gears touring bikes. Seven-gears touring bikes (unisex model) are also available if requested. The bikes and appending equipment (repair kit, pump, spare inner tube, wheel- lock, and saddle bag) will be at your disposal in the arrival hotel. At the end of your bike tour, you simply leave the rental bike at the last hotel, they will take care of the return.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Driving directions from Brenner/Brennero motorway (A22) to Brixen/Bressanone

  • Take the exit Vahrn/Varna.
  • Then, through the valley Pustertal/Valle Pusteria (SS49) to Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco, depending on the location of your hotel.
  • You may also drive along the Felbertauernstraße to Lienz in Eastern Tyrol (Austria).
  • Then, further into Italy through the valley Pustertal/Valle Pusteria to Toblach/Dobbiaco or Niederdorf/Villabassa, depending on the location of your hotel.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Treviso Airport (TSF), Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), or Trieste – Friuli Venezia Giulia Airport (TRS). Transfers from and to the airport are available upon request for 65 EUR. FUNActive Tours will pick you up from the airport.

Arrival by train

Take the train from Innsbruck over the Brenner/Brennero to Franzensfeste/Fortezza. Change the train to the valley Pustertal/Valle Pusteria - Lienz and get off either in Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco, depending on the location of your hotel.
