Ready to pedal the adventure of your life? Join Safari Bike Africa in an exciting and challenging ride to the remote and wild parts of Tanzania! In this long but rewarding safari tour, you will begin by visiting the country's most impressive national parks and end with some relaxation in the paradisiacal beaches of Zanzibar. You will definitely go home with the best memories of this wonderful adventure.
This will be your home on the first night of your safari. Set in a rural community, the lodge offers breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. A beautiful lodge committed to renewable energies (solar energy) and humanitarian projects for the neediest local communities, it has internet access and a swimming pool. A private toilet and shower room is also available in each room.
On your second night, you will stay in a rural lodge in the middle of the Maasai land formed by bungalows. The bungalows are built with their own hands in the purest Maasai style. Under the watchful eye of the roof of Africa, the Kilimanjaro, and around a bonfire, you will have the opportunity to hear about their ancestral customs and rituals, next to a succulent traditional barbecue. You will experience the true life in a Maasai boma, but with “some luxury.”
You will spend your third and eight night at Twiga Campsite and Lodge, a small lodge located in the center of Mto Wa Mbu, a village surrounded by banana plantations. It has a swimming pool and internet access, and its rooms have a private shower and toilet.
Kisura is a luxury mobile camp in a privileged location in Seronera, the heart of the Serengeti. Its spacious tents have magnificent terraces to see astonishing sunsets in the middle of the savannah, surrounded by animals. The camp is situated in the middle of two gigantic Kopjes, to which you can climb to see the most unforgettable sunset of your lives.
The staff will take care of every need you have, from a hot bath to any other thing that guarantees an authentic ambiance of “old safari." You will surely enjoy your fourth and fifth night here.
This luxury lodge is on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater. The hotel was originally the home of the first Ngorongoro conservator. The place is run in association with the Maasai community that lives in the area. It is easy to see grazing buffaloes in the hotel gardens. Found more than 2,000 meters high, you will be at the edge of the crater, which will make the nights cold, so you will be thankful to sleep in a closed hotel on your sixth night, unlike previous nights in tents.
On your seventh night, enjoy wild camping in tents at the Empakaai crater ridge. It is a quite isolated area where you can enjoy both tranquility and nature. The Maasai shepherds stay with their cattle on the outskirts of the crater, as they do not venture with their flocks along its steep slopes. It is only accessible by foot.
Given the exclusivity of the area, along with the area of extreme protection where it is located, no construction is allowed. The bathroom will be portable and there will be no shower. Also, we will have a private chef, who will prepare a delicious menu in a portable kitchen.
Accommodation on your ninth night will be at Manyara Wildlife Safari Camp in Mto wa Mbu. All cabins have a private toilet and shower room, and you can enjoy its swimming pool and internet access.
For the last three nights of your safari, you will stay at Coral Rock Hotel, located in the best beach area of Zanzibar, Jambiani. Coral Rock Zanzibar has been described as the jewel of Jambiani. The hotel’s exquisite location is incomparable.
Built on top of an ancient coral rock projecting onto the ocean and flanked by two pristine beaches, the hotel offers an ideal vacation on this tropical island. The changing tides reveal 100 shades of blue. Whether in the restaurant, bar, pool, or any hotel room, visitors can experience the breathtaking beauty of its sea views.
A natural sand barrier that stretches over a kilometer to the sea creates a spectacular natural pool protected from the strong ocean currents. The hotel has internet, and all rooms have air conditioning.
Safari Bike Africa Ltd will be waiting for you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Then you will go to Moshi, capital of Kilimanjaro, where you will spend your first night. Before the welcome dinner, you will visit the forest of Colobos, where you will be able to observe its peculiar and friendly primates.
Early after breakfast, you will leave in your vehicle to Kilimanjaro National Park. From the entrance gate of Londorossi (2,100 meters), you will begin your bike safari ascending and crossing the rain forest, which you will leave behind as you reach higher altitudes. The landscape is totally different. There can be found alpine steppes and a breathtaking view of the snowy summit of Kilimanjaro.
Once back at the Londorossi gate, you will charge your bikes in your vehicle to go to Olpopongi Maasai Village. Before dark, you will arrive at the Maasai village of Olpopongi, where you will spend the night and be warmly welcomed by Maasai friends, enjoying a succulent and traditional Maasai barbecue with them around a cozy bonfire.
After breakfast with the tribe, they will give you an effusive farewell to transfer you in your vehicle to the gate of Arusha National Park. You will start your game drive through the park, warming up engines. Then you will perform a bike safari through the park, accompanied by an armed ranger. This route is granted exclusively by the park authorities.
You will ride your bikes through a lush tropical forest, full of magic sounds, and in which you will have the opportunity to cross with its autochthonous fauna. Before leaving the national park, you will make a walking safari together with an armed ranger to the base of the most beautiful waterfall in the park, only accessible to the more adventurous.
There you will be able to contemplate the fauna that lurks in its surroundings until reaching its waters, a place where they quench their thirst. You will eat your packed lunch right there, and the bravest ones among you will be able to cool off in its crystalline and cold waters, sourced by the Meru volcano. Leaving the park, you will go to the village of Mto Wa Mbu and stay at Twiga campsite.
On the way with the safari vehicle, you will have to cross the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you will see wildlife. The landscape is sprinkled with many Maasai bomas. Halfway, you will stop at one of them. They will welcome you with their traditional songs and dances, to which you can join and participate. They will take you to their homes and invite you to get inside so that you can see the traditional process by which they are made.
You will stop at Naabi Hill (the border between the Serengeti plains and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area), where you will enjoy the views of the savanna at the top of a Kopje transformed into a lookout point. You can also send a postcard to your loved ones from there.
Then you will follow the route until you reach Seronera. You will have the opportunity to make a game drive through the infinite plains of the Serengeti, where you can contemplate the peculiar rock formations known as Kopjes. In them, lions and other felines usually climb to better see their prey.
The Kisura Luxury Camp, a luxury camp opened to the immensity of the Serengeti, will take you back to the time of the ancient explorers, offering you the best comforts in the heart of the Serengeti (Seronera) and in a unique location where there are the best game drives of the Serengeti. This is where all the action is. It is surrounded by two Kopjes, which you can climb to contemplate an unforgettable sunset. Get ready for an exciting night full of sounds of purest and wildest Africa.
You will wake up to start the game drive in the biggest live show in nature. It will last the whole day. You will have lunch in a picnic area located near a pool of hippos, which you will be able to observe four meters away. After a magnificent and wild game drive, worthy of the best animal reports, and before returning to your luxury camp, you will stop at the Seronera Visitor Center.
You will have the opportunity to know a little more about the secrets and history of Serengeti, to see skulls of different animals, to make an educational journey while walking among kopjes, and to know more closely its funny and curious inhabitants, the rocky hyraxes.
As usual, you will get up early in your luxurious Serengeti camp to leave to the great volcano of Ngorongoro. On the way to the exit of Serengeti National Park, you will make your last game drive in this park, which never disappoints. You will follow the path until you reach the great volcano of the Ngorongoro, where you will descend to the crater to make a game drive in the "Volcano of Eden," named this way for the large amount of fauna concentrated in its caldera.
You will stay at Rhino Lodge, located in the very crown of the crater. The lodge that night will be closed due to the low temperatures during the night. You will be at more than 2,300 meters of altitude.
Early in the morning, after having a great breakfast, you will travel by truck a few kilometers to start your safari in the Maasai village of Nainokanoka in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will go to the crater of Empakaai, where you can find grazing zebras next to the cattle of the Maasais. You have been selected by the body that protects the conservation area of Ngorongoro as an exclusive team to practice the sport they love the most, mountain biking.
You will enjoy an exclusive route through one of the most beautiful places in the world. You will ascend to the crest of the Empakaai volcano, more striking to observe than the one in Ngorongoro's, for its perfect circular shape and its impressive lake of deep alkaline waters. You will leave the bikes and have lunch.
Then you will prepare for a trek of four kilometers, by which you will descend to the base of the Empakaai volcano, where the lake is and where you will have the opportunity to see a great amount of animal fauna. You will do this while being accompanied by an armed ranger. You will spend the night next to a park ranger in a wild camping site, on the crest of the crater, in the tents of the special Empakaai camp.
After breakfast, you will enjoy a great panoramic view of the caldera, descending from the tip of the crater to Mto Wa Mbu, where, following the ideals of helping the communities that are in need, you will have the opportunity (if you wish) to visit one of the orphanages, with which Safari Africa and the NGO Moyoni collaborate directly.
You can personally donate clothes and/or school supplies, stuffed animals, toys, and more in case you had brought them from your country of origin (for more information on what to donate or other humanitarian projects, you can request information directly from Safari Bike Africa Ltd). Also, whoever is interested, can visit a local craft market, in case you are interested in taking a souvenir, apart from what has already been lived, or any other thing for your friends and family.
Early after breakfast, you will go on a bike safari to Lake Manyara. It is an easy and short route, crossing towns and plantations, forests of acacias, and creeks, until arriving at the edge of the lake. After lunch, you will continue your bike route along a path surrounded by dense banana plantations until you reach a waterfall where you will be able to cool off and receive a natural aquatic massage. You will return to the place where you left your bikes and return to your lodging to rest.
In the evening, you will have a wonderful buffet dinner consisting of more than eight different traditional African dishes, prepared by a local family in the middle of a banana plantation. There is also an option to visit a local pub and enjoy a very cool drink and Tanzanian music.
After breakfast, you will conclude the adventurous safari days to go to the airport of Arusha, bid farewell to your safari guide, and go into the paradise of Zanzibar, where you will be picked up at the airport and taken to the hotel. Have a few deserved relaxing days in a fantastic hotel in front of the best white-sand beach of Jambiani Island, which has crystal-clear waters. Accommodation will be at Coral Rock Hotel (Jambiani).
Enjoy a day of relaxation in this paradise to do what you want in this jewel of the Indian Ocean, being able to enjoy a coconut in the shade of a palm tree or to go hiking and find out the different secrets of the island.
You will go again on safari (Safari Blue: optional, but included in the itinerary as a gift from Safari Bike Africa). It is a full-day excursion in which you will be picked up in the morning at the hotel, and after choosing your size of fins, snorkels, and tube, you will sail in a local boat to an island in which you can snorkel through coral reefs, spotting the great amount of tropical marine fauna and chilling out in its virgin beaches.
After being offered a fresh-fruit snack, you will sail to another island where you will find a buffet of seafood, fish, vegetables, lobster, and more, cooked in the purest Swahili style.
After breakfast, you will be picked up and taken to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) to take your international connecting flight. Depending on flight schedules, you could visit Stone Town (not included in the itinerary). You should bear in mind that you must be at the airport at least two hours in advance.
On the fourth day of safari, you will make a stop to one of the Maasai bomas inside Ngorongoro Conservation Area. They will welcome you with their traditional songs and dances, to which you can join and participate. They will take you to their homes and invite you to get inside so that you can see the traditional process by which they are made.
This safari holiday will take place in various destinations in Tanzania, starting in Arusha and ending in Zanzibar.
You will be provided full-board meals while on safari and half-board meals in Zanzibar. The support vehicle has a chef at your disposal (depending on the route). The chef will prepare different menus, according to the configuration of each stage. At breakfast, you will have chai (tea), coffee, chocolate, juices, fruits, cereals, toasts, fried or scrambled eggs, cheeses, beans, sausages, and bacon.
The menu at the provision points during your route on bike will consist of sandwiches, samosas, hard-boiled egg, roast chicken, chocolate, fruit, and juices. At dinner, the cooks will prepare delicious soups, rice or pasta, barbecue meats, and vegetables. Let Safari Bike Africa know in advance of any dietary needs or if you prefer vegetarian food.
In addition to the three daily meals stipulated in the itinerary and included in the price of the trip, you are free to enjoy the local gastronomy that you might find in the towns during the route whenever you want. The water, during the whole trip, will be bottled. Only Safari Bike Africa does this. The rest of agencies that go through this kind of routes use purification tablets to treat non-potable water. This way, the water obtains a chemical taste and many times is not safe.
Experience the most exciting balloon safari in the Serengeti savannah! The takeoff of the balloon is at dawn, which is the best time to see animals and take spectacular photographs. After the balloon safari, you will enjoy a breakfast with champagne to toast this extraordinary experience. This is optional and not included in the price.
