Accommodation

Fraoch Lodge offers accommodation near Aviemore and is very flexible for groups, families, and individuals who want to get outside and enjoy the Cairngorms National Park. It is more than just accommodation; it is also the home base for Scot Mountain Holidays. A visit to Fraoch Lodge means that you’ll not only have a comfortable bed and hot shower standard with most accommodation but also you’ll have the benefit of sharing the experiences of fellow travellers and interested hosts.

The lodge is a TV-free zone so guests can enjoy the almost lost art of conversation in front of a log / peat fire. It has also got old-fashioned card and board games to share in the main table of the lounge. The dining room and lounge are shared spaces where they gather with guests and friends to share in the holiday and offer you extensive knowledge of your tour.

At any time, guests can relax in the cosy lounge, where a fire is lit on chillier days. Perhaps you’ll pass the time reading one of the lodge's many books, playing a board game with the family or simply sitting and looking into the fire with a wee dram.

At night, the comfortable bedrooms create the perfect ambiance for restful sleep and if you so choose, it’s possible for a group of friends or a larger family to have the privacy of an entire upstairs floor or annex to themselves. Where bathroom facilities are shared, the rooms have private basins within. Three rooms now have private bathroom facilities.

Location

This bike holiday will take place in Boat of Garten, Scotland in the UK. There are miles of trails in the woods and some on the mountains which are suitable for single-track bike riding. This is an amazing area to explore with a mountain bike, in direct contrast to many other areas of Scotland where it is very difficult to find off-road routes. What makes it even more interesting is that there are so many routes which can be explored by the kids, even those as young as three or four can find some trails to ride. Then if you’re heading further afield, there are several mountain biking trail centres, including Glenlivet, Laggan, and Moray Monster trails.

Strathspey Railway

The steam railway runs from Aviemore to Broomhill stopping at Boat of Garten station half-way along the line. The station is sometimes not manned but you can buy tickets on the train. The railway has started to offer free bike transport which makes it quite easy to arrange a family bike ride along the Speyside Way as relatively young children, if they are riding a bike, can manage the route one way to / from Aviemore (five miles) or Broomhill (four miles).
