Scottish Bike Touring invites you to join their coast to coast cycling holiday! You will experience touring on two wheels in this guided bicycle ride in Scotland. You will be cycling your way from the west to the east with easy paced rides, so you can have ample time for sightseeing, picture taking, sampling the local fare, taking in the full splendor of Scotland, and making memories to last a lifetime!
This is a gently undulating route which rises from sea level to 354 feet in 52 kilometers. This route takes you on quiet country lanes and cycle routes through Dumfries and Galloway. Your stop for the day, Moffat, has many claims to fame the narrowest hotel and the shortest street in Scotland being just two of them.
Today, you will tackle the climb to the highest point on the whole route (413 meters), known as the Devil's Beef Tub. After every up, there is a down and you have a sweeping descent down the lovely Tweed Valley. Your stop for today is Peebles, which was home to the author, soldier, and Governor General of Canada John Buchan.
You will cycle on a mix of the former railway line and cycle path today. You will experience more climbing and about halfway, you will reach the Moorfoot Hills viewpoint. Spread before you is Edinburgh and the Pentland Hills. The remainder of the day sees you descend into Dalkeith and home for the night. Dalkeith has a number of historic attractions, among them are Newbattle Abbey and Dalkeith Palace.
Today is a short day, 40 kilometers, just as well as more time will be spent on this leg sightseeing and picture taking than on any of the preceding days. Country parks, beaches, promenades and stately houses, there is plenty to see and the end of the ride is amazing with not one, two, but three bridges spanning the forth. Once more, you dip your wheel into the water and you have done it. You are a coast to coast (C2C)-er.
Notes: This tour is a level 2 ride with some hard climbs and suitable for tourers and hybrids. Average daily distance is approximately 30 miles.
