The two-story Victorian house which dominates the property was built in the 1850s and is reported to be one of the oldest Victorian homes in Sonoma.

Program

You can expect an amazing itinerary of experiences while biking the region’s beautiful country roads. You might find yourself face-to-face with a herd of goats while sampling the artisan cheese maker’s wares. Or enjoying an elegant lunch with world-class wines, created by the chef at a hidden estate. Depending on the season, you might picnic under 1400-year-old redwoods or experience a crab fishing expedition up close and personally.

But it isn’t a tour for everyone. In fact, Sonoma on a Bike has limited seats. It’s designed for those who like to savor a bike tour with all their senses fully engaged. Sonoma on a Bike encourages you to take the time to come and breathe and take in the beauty they’ve found in the lush landscapes of Sonoma County with it’s vineyards, valleys, vistas, hills, mountains, parks, rocky coastline, crashing waves, farmland, and forests (including those majestic and magnificent redwoods). It’s a slow, sensual trip. And if that sounds somewhat provocative, and possibly a little self-indulgent, so be it. It’s a gift to be given and shared with someone you love, including yourself.

The epic tour contains routes of 50 to 90 miles per day that are rated “challenging” and cover many sections of The Amgen, Tour of California, and Levi Leipheimer’s Training Ride and Gran Fondo. For the serious rider, this is the ultimate cycling experience through beautiful Sonoma County.

The trips is entirely organized and operated by Sonoma County cyclists, foodies, and wine aficionados who are passionate about this particular spot of paradise that they call home In fact, every trip will be led by Randy and his most experienced guides. You can expect local wines to be served each night with your dinner. Finally, unlike most “point-to-point” bike trips, Sonoma on a Bike will change up the tour throughout the year, so you can experience the best each season has to offer.

Itinerary

Day 1

What better way to begin your trip than by biking through a few of the most celebrated vineyards in Northern California? You’ll stop for a few wine tastings so you can judge for yourself which you like the best. Later that day, Sonoma on a Bike will introduce you to a town voted by Fodor’s as ‘one of the 10 best small towns in America’.

Day 2

You will ride up to the Geysers (58 miles, 4500 feet elevation gain) which is Santa Rosa Cycling Club’s top ten local rides.

Day 3

You will ride 90 miles of Levi Leipheimer’s training ride. Now that is epic!

Day 4

Today, you will ride up and see the spectacular views of Coleman Valley Road, a leg of the 2013 Amgen Tour of California.

Bike gear

Sonoma on a Bike recommends a quick, lightweight, road bike for traversing the roads. They also offer the Specialized Turbo (in medium and large) for those looking for an easier ride. In addition, they’ll outfit you with protective helmets, water bottles, and handlebar bags to keep your personal necessities at your fingertips.

Guide

There will be a guide biking along the route with you each day. In addition, a second guide in a van will be sweeping the route periodically to check on how everyone is doing. The van is available for transporting purchases and, if you desire, transporting you.

Luggage transfers

Once you give your luggage to your guides at the start of the trip and each morning when you are moving to a new hotel, the guides will ensure that your luggage is transported safely to your hotel.
