Join Tenerife Bike Training on this original cycling tour in Tenerife! This memorable cycling training camp covers six days of challenging riding around their home island, with three ascents up to the Mount Teide National Park. The guided tours are carefully designed by local Delgado brothers, Alberto and Marcos. Complete this tour and your name will appear on the infamous “Finishers Board” back at the headquarter of Tenerife Bike Training!
Your training camp is based at the four-star Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel on the south coast of the island in a perfect location to start your routes.
The rooms have all been refurbished and are located in the main hotel building. They can either have a mountain view or a pool view.
The 2-bed twin rooms have different amenities such as a balcony, minibar, television, safe, bathroom, and they are the best option for two adults or one adult traveling with a child.
Today is your arrival.
The route starts from the Paradise Park Hotel in Los Cristianos with a gentle steady climb to your first stop at La Centinela with time to refuel and take in the superb views. You then make your way to the town of Granadilla where you start a smooth 13-kilometer climb (average grade of five to six percent) to a cafe stop at Vilaflor. After that, you will ride an amazing descent to Los Cristianos.
You start again from the Paradise Park Hotel in Los Cristianos and you will ride up and down along the coast to the town of El Poris. This is to allow your legs to recover before the King´s Day, the first challenge of the week. In El Poris, you will stop at the sea-front cafe before returning along the same route.
This is the first real challenge of the week. The first part of the route, you will start with a short and easy climb of eight kilometers and perfect warm up through the banana plantations. You will then continue to Chio where you start the 24-kilometer climb to the National Park of El Teide. The climbing is not over yet as you have a final three kilometers climb before you start a spectacular descent to Los Cristianos.
Today is a gentle recovery ride along the coast to the town of El Medano. This is to allow your legs to recover before the queen’s day, the most challenging route of the tour. In El Medano, you will stop at one of the many sea-front cafes before returning along the same route.
This is your biggest challenge! You will be transferred to Arico where your bike will be waiting for you to start the route. Once you have passed through the picturesque village of Guimar, you start the climb of 34 kilometers to El Teide National Park. Breathtaking scenery awaits you, probably the most impressive landscapes Tenerife has to offer. After a cafe stop at the mythical Parador Hotel and a photo opportunity with Mount Teide in the background, there is only three kilometers more of climbing before another spectacular descent to Los Cristianos (same as King’s Day).
After five days of a great cycling, Tenerife Bike Training gives you the option to start from Vilaflor (1,400-meter altitude) or start from the hotel (an extra 22 kilometers and 1,400 meters of climbing). Either way, you will arrive at the Parador Hotel for a quick cafe stop and your last photo opportunity with El Teide.
Only five kilometers of climbing before you start one of the most beautiful descents to La Orotava for the Paella party at the Delgado’s family home in the countryside. Mama Delgado will greet you there with a warm smile and the wonderful aroma of her delicious cooking; the centerpiece of which is a huge paella, cooked the traditional way, of course!
Today is your departure.
You will have a fully-supported ride with the usual Tenerife Bike Training experienced ride leaders and support van. There are six routes in total. The duration of the routes is between three to eight hours with coffee breaks. All ages, levels, and abilities are welcome.
You will ride on bike-friendly roads with almost non-existent traffic and smooth mountain roads. The island has embraced its growing two-wheeled culture, offering ample bike resources and a positive attitude towards cyclists.
Alberto is the team leader and the “boss” on the road. He is an eight-time Ironman Finisher, qualified for Ironman World Championship in Hawaii in 2015. He knows perfectly the best routes around the island and he will support you along the way. Being a local gives Alberto a unique advantage when it comes to preparing your trip: the roads you will ride have all been carefully selected and have been ridden many times by Alberto on his training runs. Fluent in English, he has always had a passion for cycling and triathlon.
Marcos is a two-time Ironman Lanzarote Finisher. He studied Business Management at the University of La Laguna in Tenerife and he has worked for almost eight years at a Swedish company in Stockholm and Barcelona within the Human Resources Department as a Project Manager. However, he always had a passion for biking and triathlon. He is responsible for the logistics and organization of your trip and is one of your team leaders. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Swedish, he combines efficiency, practicality, and fun into everything he does.
This cycling tour will take place in Tenerife, Spain. Tenerife is the island of the pros. Tenerife has superior training terrain with climbs to El Teide at 2,350 meters (7,709 feet) that rival the toughest of the Alps (Stevio and Mortirolo). Pro cycling teams such as Sky. Astana, Katusha, Movistar, Lotto, Belkin, etc. have all trained here, and it was on the island´s smooth, sun-baked roads that Team Sky´s Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome sculpted their Tour de France successes.
The privilege of cycling at 2,330 meters above sea level is something you will find in very few places in the world. The opportunity of climbing from sea level up to 2,330 meters in just a few hours make Tenerife different and unique in the world. There are over 20 distinct routes with climbs that rival the toughest of the Alps.
You will be served meals on a half-board basis during this tour. After your sixth ride, you can enjoy a paella party, a delicious paella lunch hosted by Mama Delgado in a beautiful Canarian house in the countryside. The starters include mama´s guacamole, serrano ham, and typical Canarian potatoes with a traditional "mojo". Wine and beers are included in the price. Water, bananas, iso drinks, nuts, etc. are provided in the support van.
Massage is available at the hotel and you will have access to a health center which includes: a hydrotherapy area with jacuzzi, sauna, Roman baths, cold water plunge pool, thermal shower, Scottish shower, and relaxation lounge area.
The spa treatments are available for an extra price.
