Day 1: Prague

Arrival and overnight in Prague.

Day 2: Prague - Melnik, 51 kilometers / 32 miles

You will be met at your hotel by Top Bicycle's representative, who will introduce you to the program and hand over the bikes and information materials. Then, start with a short car transfer to the chateau Troja, on the outskirts of Prague. From there you begin cycling northward along the Vltava River.

After you get out of town the landscape begins to change, with more and more vineyards appearing. Your destination of Melnik is the main wine growing center in Bohemia. Melnik’s renaissance palace looks out over the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe Rivers, and the view goes down well with the wine. You will stay overnight in Melnik.

Day 3: Melnik - Litomerice. 47 kilometers / 29 miles

Today’s stage takes you from Melnik through Roudnice nad Labem and Libechov, with its incredible palace and gardens. The next stop is the transit camp and ghetto for Jews and other Nazi prisoners en route to extermination camps during WWII - Terezin. This fortress is now a memorial to those who suffered in this place. From here it is a short ride to the town of Litomerice, the major town in the region, with its superb architecture. You will stay overnight in Litomerice.

Day 4: Litomerice - Decin, 51 kilometers / 32 miles

Cycle along the valley of the Elbe River, with the hills rising ever higher above you. Be sure to look out for the ruins of Strekov Castle high above the river near the town of Usti nad Labem. Today’s route finishes in Decin, the last larger town before the frontier with Germany. Overnight in Decin.

Day 5: Decin - Bad Schandau, 24 kilometers / 15 miles

Today is an easy day in terms of length. Begin by cycling to the German border, then it’s on to Bad Schandau. Today’s ride goes through the incredible landscape of the Bohemian / Saxon Switzerland area, following the forested river valley through the incredible sandstone formations. Over millions of years, the river Elbe has carved intricate formations in the sandstone of the area.

One option for this day is to get off your bikes in the Czech border town of Hrensko and climb up to the Pravcika brana, the largest natural stone arch in Europe. Then you can continue on to Bad Schandau on the German side, a neat and tidy spa town where you can make use of the spa facilities, or just enjoy the town’s quiet, gentle atmosphere while watching the boats go by. Overnight in Bad Schandau.

Day 6: Bad Schandau - Dresden, 45 kilometers / 28 miles

Continue on through the sandstone formations of Saxon Switzerland. As you journey along the Elbe River valley, you will want to climb to the impressive Bastei rock formation above the spa town of Rathen, then continue on past the massive fortress of Koningstein. Cycling through peaceful meadows and precious wetlands to Dresden rounds off this tour perfectly. Overnight in Dresden.

Day 7: Dresden

Sightseeing is recommended in Dresden this day. No visitor to Dresden should miss - the Zwinger Pavilion, The Frauenkirche Church, the Semper Opera House as well as the Royal Palace.

Your guide cycles with the group on the route and will be responsible for the logistics. They will show you certain points of interest along the way. The guide will be with the group from breakfast until after dinner. They can advise on tasty dishes for dinner. The guides are knowledgeable about sights of your trip. They are bilingual, so there won't be any language barrier for you. They are friendly and personable, nationals of the main tour country.

Some dishes may contain meat and this might not be apparent from the menu. If you are not a strict vegetarian then Top Bicycle recommends that you try some of the meat dishes as these are dishes representative of the cuisine.
