During this program, you will be accommodated in various accommodations along the route. Touring Catalonia chooses their accommodations with precision to always offer you a comfortable stay. The places will make you feel at home.


The first part of the bike tour is cycling on the Greenways cycle path. It is an ancient railway from the tiny train which longtime ago traveled from the Pyrenees to the Costa Brava. Today, it turned into a track only for hikers an bikers, making it a safe and peaceful cycle tour which allows you to enjoy a privileged environment and diverse landscapes. From the volcanoes at the Garrotxa to the Costa Brava beaches and coves, this is a cycle route for the whole family.

The second part, after Sant Feliu de Guixols, you will go through the Pirinexus path, secondary roads, and dirt tracks. All of them are indicated in the road books and maps to discover the most interesting points such as the typical medieval villages of the area, Pals or Peratallada, or one of the many natural beaches that you will reach during your bike experience in this privileged environment, the Costa Brava. Also on this visit, and taking advantage of the Emporda wine region, Touring Catalonia includes a visit to the wine museum, Coll de Roses, in Roses village. The last day is in Figueres, where you can visit the museum of the quite famous painter Salvador Dalí.


Day 1 - Settle down in Joanetes

Upon arrival in Joanetes, you will settle down in the hotel and have a welcome meeting with someone from Touring Catalonia staff to introduce you to the bike trip. Overnight will be in the fully restored farmhouse in Joanetes, a small and millenary village in the heart of La Garrotxa county, where the route begins.

Day 2 - Go down from Joanetes to Girona, 50 kilometers

Today, the route descends from Joanetes to Girona by the Greenway cycle path, an easy and safe path, across the countryside and different ancient villages such as Sant Feliu de Pallerols, Les Planes d’Hostoles, and Amer or Angles. In Amer, you can stop and visit its natural sparkling fountain called Font Picant. Of course, if you could visit one of these villages, don't miss the opportunity to enjoy it. Then, after four hours, you will arrive in Girona. There, you can visit the old town, the cathedral and the magnificent Jewish quarter, as well as many historical and art museums. Also, Girona is well known for its gastronomy. The hotel is located in the city center.

Day 3 - Reaching the Mediterranean from Girona to Sant Feliu de Guíxols, 43 kilometers

Again, you will take the route of the Greenways bike trip and continues to go down to the Costa Brava. Across some fields and plains, you can reach Cassa de la Selva and Llagostera before arriving in Sant Feliu de Guíxols. There, you would enjoy its seafront, its beach, and its port.

Day 4 - From Sant Feliu de Guíxols to L’Estartit, La Gola del Ter, and Medes Islands, 48 kilometers

You will bike north along and near the beach. You will pass through beaches without buildings and small villages. Then, you will go inside the medieval town of Pals, where you will enjoy the panoramic view of the Empordà. The final part of the track is following the Ter river’s mouth (Gola del Ter), an amazing natural environment. After that. you will arrive in L’Estartit where you can easily enjoy its beach and of course its Medes Islands, a protected area since 1983.

Day 5 - L’Estartit to Roses, biking along the Bay of Roses, 58 kilometers

Leaving L’Estartit, you will bike around Montrgí mountain range with its lonely castle at the top. Then, after Bellcaire d’Empordà and Albons, you will reach L’Escala, another lovely typical coastal village. In L’Escala, there are the famous Ruins of Empuries, an ancient Greek settlement. Also, there is a small and amazing medieval neighborhood called Sant Martí d'Empúries, their views of the Roses bay are priceless.

After that, you will take the bike again and go to Sant Pere Pescador. Following that, you will arrive at the Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Empordà. It's a natural park where you can enjoy birdwatching. Then, you will continue biking along the Roses bay, which is one of the most beautiful experiences that you can have in the Costa Brava, always with the sea on your right side. In Roses, you can enjoy the beach, the citadel, and the lighthouse from the seafront. In Roses, you will also visit the wine museum where you would taste the wines of L’Empordà.

Day 6 - From Roses to Figueres across the vineyards, 28 or 40 kilometers

You will go back to Figueres, across small and ancient villages in the countryside, such as Castelló d’Empúries and Vilanova de La Muga or Peralada. It is also surrounded by vineyards and always with the Pyrenees on the right on your way. It will be the best way to finish your trip in Figueres city, the city of the famous painter Salvador Dalí.

Day 7 - Sweet goodbye

You will depart after breakfast.


All the rented bikes will be delivered in the welcome meeting with helmet and repair kit (spare tube, tools, mini pump, and pannier). Touring Catalonia will fit the bikes for you and you will check it.

This bike tour will start in Joanetes and then take you to Girona, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, L’Estartit, the Bay of Roses, until Figueres. Girona is the place to be if you want to eat well at a reasonable price! The Girona region is well-known by the riders because a lot of professionals are or were living there: Lance Armstrong, Ryder Hesjedal, David Millar, George Hincapie, Christian Vande Velde and more than 80 others. Also, teams such as the Cannondale-Garmin or Orica-GreenEdge are located in the region.


You will be served six breakfasts and one dinner in Joanetes. It is always possible to upgrade to half board. If you are vegetarian, celiac or have any food intolerance, let Touring Catalonia know it. Water is drinkable everywhere from the tap, fountains, etc. Usually, in the tours, it is easy to find. Enjoy the local gastronomy from traditional dishes to the trendiest food. Plunge into a new world of flavors! Local wines, tapas, Catalan cuisine and delicious paella will take your breath away. Girona is also famous for its restaurants.

  • Take the E15 / A9.
  • Then take AP-7 until Joanetes.
  • After that, take N141e.
  • Then after Angles, take C-63.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO).

Every hour, there is a bus from Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) to Girona railway station. Then take a bus to Olot. People who sleep in Joanetes needs an extra transfer (about 20 EUR). Direct transfer is available upon request
