Scenic Cycling Holiday Georgia

Tusheti is a region of Georgia. There, you can feel the magnificence of nature, feel the freedom, and see the mountains covered with snow. The local Tushena is very hospitable. Life in Tusheti begins in late spring and ends in mid-autumn. At this time, the locals herd sheep. With the onset of winter, most Tushians descend to Kakheti. And in Tusheti itself only a few families remain. In some villages, only 1 - 2 families live. Therefore, to get acquainted with the still wilderness of the national park, to visit amazing mountain villages, it is best to go on a bike tour in the summer or early autumn.

Guesthouse Javakhe is a private house in which travelers love and respect. Rooms are double and triple. There are rooms with a private bathroom and there are rooms with a shared bathroom. On the ground floor, there is a dining room with a beautiful view from the terrace. There is a Russian bath as well for your avail. The house has Wi-Fi connection.

Program

Day 1: Tbilisi - Tusheti - Omalo (20 kilometers / 12 miles)

  • Group meeting in Tbilisi
  • Take bikes for rent
  • Jeep tour to Tusheti
  • By car, you will go to the pass Abano (2,926 meters above sea level)
  • You will ride bicycles down to the valley
  • Riding a bike to Omalo village
  • Total: transfer 160 kilometers by car, 20 kilometers by bike, climb approximately 300 meters

Day 2: Omalo - Dartlo - Dano - Cesho - Parsma - Omalo (35-45 kilometers / 22-28 miles)

Today, you will visit several local villages. First, you will go to the village of Dartlo, where all the houses have the status of cultural monuments. Then, you will go to the village of Dano, Cesho, and Parsma. In the latter, there is a complex of houses-towers at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level. You will return to Omalo and have dinner.

  • Total: transfer 20 kilometers by car, 35-45 kilometers by bike, climb approximately 1,000 meters

Day 3: Omalo - Shenako - Diklo - Omalo (25 kilometers / 16 miles)

On this day, you will visit the villages of Shenako and Diklo. The first of them is only four kilometers away, but the path is blocked by a deep gorge from one of the main Tushino rivers, the Pirikitskaya Alazani. Now, there is a steep climb to the opposite side of the gorge.

In the village of Shenako, you will see the Sameba temple of 1843. You will also see the local sanctuary "niche" - a relic of pagan beliefs. The territory, where traditionally women are not allowed to enter. Diklo village is located on the border with Dagestan. You will return to Omalo and have dinner. In the evening, you can order a Russian bath.

  • Total: transfer 7 kilometers by car, 25 kilometers by bike, climb about 600 meters

Day 4: Omalo - Lake Oreti - Omalo (30 kilometers / 19 miles on a horse)

For many tourists, this day will be the most memorable. Today, you will change the activity. You will ride horses to Lake Oreti! This train will be very exciting. On the way, you will cross the Tushinskaya Alazani River. In Omalo, you will be back for dinner.

But if you do not want to ride a horse, you can independently ride a bicycle (without a guide). Unfortunately, it is impossible to climb to Lake Oreti by bicycle. Therefore, cyclists will have a separate route. Shuttle service for the bike on that day can be ordered for an additional fee (approximately 50 EUR).

  • Total: On a horse for about 30 kilometers, a gain of height about 600 meters

Day 5: Omalo - Abano Pass - Telavi - Tbilisi (45 kilometers / 28 miles)

In the morning, you will leave the hospitable Omalo. Transfer by off-road vehicle to the Abano Pass. Ride on bikes. Now, you have a dizzying descent along a 37 kilometers long dirt road, it is breathtaking! You move to Telavi, pack your bike, and drive by car to Tbilisi.

  • Total: transfer 120 kilometers by car, approximately 45 kilometers by bike, climb approximately 100 meters)

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Tbilisi International Airport (TBS). You are recommended to fly a day earlier to Tbilisi. Stay overnight at a hotel. The team will meet you in the morning and go to Omalo. But if you arrive in the morning on the day the tour starts, the team will meet you at the airport.
